Online Resources
Virginia currently does not have a singular curriculum for providing sex education across the state. It does have a Standard of Learning provided by the Virginia Department of Education, but according to the SIECUS (The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States ), Virginia gets an overall C, with a D in sex education requirement and C+ in sex education content. These ratings reflect the gaps in comprehensive, inclusive, and evidence-based sexual health education offered to students.
While the state's current approach leaves much to be desired, there are many sources available that provide comprehensive sex education programs that can be implemented to better serve young people. These resources cover a wide range of topics, from reproductive health and consent to LGBTQ+ inclusion and healthy relationships. Providing access to these safe, vetted sources on comprehensive education is the purpose of this page, as we believe it is vital for all students in Virginia to receive accurate, inclusive, and holistic sex education that empowers them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
